We were running late to our engagement photo session because I took too long to get ready. I was apologetic and noted to myself to not be late to our own ceremony and follow the schedule to a t. I know Lendl doesn’t like waiting, but I somehow just run late all the time. Yet he always waits for me without making me feel bad. He’s always patient with me.
We met our photographer, Julia Park, at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and I was finally relieved. Thank God for Julia for quickly adjusting our route since we were behind schedule. I normally freak out or start being anxious when my schedule changes, but I was quite relaxed and just went with the flow. Julia told us to pick a few places that are meaningful to us for our engagement and/or wedding photos. We didn’t really have anywhere specific in mind. We just wanted an urban background with some foliage to go with our theme.
Okay well, I did have an idea of passing by the places we went on our first date that lasted for 12 hours—yes twelve hours! We started at church, got on the bus/subway to go Downtown, passed by a pizzeria for lunch, went to the AGO, stayed there for a few hours… and just decided where to go from there. I didn’t plan to stay out that long. I didn’t even call it a date before (I was in denial).
So, in a way, our engagement shoot is similar to our first date. We started at the AGO and just went from there and to wherever Julia took us.
Julia is an amazing person and photographer! I was excited to work with her. She’s easy going, has an eye for detail, made us feel comfortable and gave us cues that are easy to follow. My favourite one is probably whenever she told Lendl to tell me a joke. He just said “babe” and I was already laughing.
Of course, I needed to have Stormtroopers for this! It was the easiest thing to include, but for sure we’re going to find a way to include more of our favourite films, comics and TV (LotR, Batman/Justice League, etc.) in our wedding.
Julia captured us so well! We’re intimate and we go from 0 to 100 real quick. By that I mean, looking serious and then laughing our heads off the next second. During the shoot, I was reminded how important it is to be in the moment with Lendl. We always try to capture a part, a moment of our lives in photographs and videos that we forget to be really present, to enjoy ourselves. We were out for about an hour or so and I enjoyed every second of it. It’s cheesy, I know, but that’s how I felt. I felt kilig (giddy) the whole time… and that’s how I feel when I see our engagement photos!
When I think about how exciting all of this is or counting down to our wedding, I pray that I always remember our future marriage is more than our wedding, that our wedding day is more than publicly declaring our love for each other, it’s to celebrate God in our union, declare His love for us and bring Him glory.
I also pray that we continue to be deeply rooted in Him (Colossians 2:6-7) as we prepare for this new season.
Now off to work on picking a photo to use for our save-the-dates!
Thanks Julia for the time and all the lovely shots. All photos are by Julia Park Photography.
